Research Brief: IT Organizations Look to IP Storage Networks to Increase SAN-Attached Server Rates
ESG Research Brief

Storage area networks (SAN) provide a host of benefits to IT environments that range from increased capacity utilization to superior performance and availability. While organizations have adopted the technology to exploit these advantages, ESG’s research found that deployments are by no means pervasive due mainly to the substantial investment required to build and maintain Fibre Channel-based SANs. However, the next generation of IP storage technology, including iSCSI and FCoE, is well-positioned to extend SAN benefits to non-networked servers in an economically appealing manner.
