Video Transcript

Hi, this is Jason Buffington, and I'm looking at how you protect an EVO RAIL. So continuing our series on different protection methods for EVO, let's take a look at Dell. Dell owns a virtualization specific data protection technology called V-Ranger, and it has virtualization capable data protection in both AppAssure and NetVault. Surely, you could run either of those as a virtual appliance within each EVO node. Now, Dell hasn't been as loud as they could have been for AppAssure or NetVault since the Quest acquisition so it would be easy to underestimate the technology capabilities reflected in Dell's data protection software portfolio.

Meanwhile, there's lots of people buying lots of Dell servers and storage. And I suspect they're going to be excited to have this turnkey hyper converged appliance.  Folks who buy a Dell EVO could actually rediscover the Dell data protection software, particularly if it's delivered as a optimized, virtualized appliance inside of each Dell built EVO node, if Dell takes advantage of the opportunity.
