Rapidly evolving AI models are pressuring organizations to keep pace with change. Amid the myriad challenges of AI foundation models, including large language models (LLMs), substantial evolution is underway and spawning small language models, reasoning models, multimodal models, expert model mixtures, open source integration, RAG developments, and other innovations. The velocity of these advances means that strategic decisions made just months ago may already be outdated, forcing IT leaders to constantly reassess their technology investments and architectural choices.
This change has led to a highly unsettled market. Organizations are scrambling to understand and develop their strategies for foundation models, but best practices for building strategic and technical plans are limited. Understanding how teams are deploying and using emerging models in their ecosystems is critical to finding success in this burgeoning environment.
To gain further insights into these trends, Omdia surveyed 400 technical and business stakeholders in North America (U.S. and Canada) involved in the strategy, decision-making, selection, deployment, and management of GenAI initiatives and projects at their organization.
