SDS: Hyperscale or Hyperconverged?
ESG Brief

Dec 20, 2016
Excitement over software-defined storage (SDS) technology has created an interesting side effect; the term has been used so often and for such a wide variety of solutions that this excitement has also led to confusion. Currently, the term can refer to a myriad of different product types, each with its own set of benefits and considerations. While some storage vendors and industry experts have tried to define what SDS is, or more often what it isn’t, the fact is that many of the solutions leveraging the SDS qualifier offer value, albeit in different ways. This brief will focus on two different delivery models of SDS-based technologies that seek to replace traditional storage systems, hyperscale and hyperconverged, to help better understand the benefits and considerations.
