Not only are IT organizations supporting more endpoints (desktops, laptops, and other client access devices) than ever, but users are storing more information and files on these devices. Since PC backup is an area of ambiguity in many organizations, there is a clear lack of a consistent data protection strategy which leaves a lot of potentially business-critical data vulnerable to loss. Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) technology has the potential to address this problem by consolidating PC images on data center-based servers, allowing them to be incorporated in server backup and recovery processes.
